Sometimes, picking the right colours for our makeup can be challenging, especially with so many different colour options available. Identifying your undertones can help you choose the right colours for you, which will compliment your skin and highlight your facial features.
What Are Undertones?
Undertones are the colours beneath your skin that give it a certain hue. Understanding what undertone your skin has can help to highlight your facial features and bring out your natural beauty. There are three types of undertone, warm, neutral and cool.
Cool Undertones
If your veins have a blue or purplish hue and your skin burns easily in the sun, chances are you have cool undertones in your skin. The makeup colours that will best compliment your skin include blues, purples and light pinks. Try to avoid yellow-based eye, lip and foundation products as they have the potential to wash out the colour in your face.
Warm Undertones
If your veins have olive or green hue and your skin is more likely to tan in the sun you are more likely to have warm undertones in your skin. Yellows, gold and peach are all excellent choices for makeup as they complement the natural warmth and glow of your skin. Try to steer clear of blues and purples as they can clash with your skin.
Neutral Undertones
Neutral undertones, as you might expect, are somewhere in between warm and cool undertones. It can be categorised by having blue and green veins and skin that doesn’t tend to easily burn or tan. Neutral undertones are quite flexible and versatile allowing many different colours to be worn. Being somewhere between warm and cool, coral and pastel colours are flattering amongst many other colours.
